LIVORNO, Italy – Capt. Peyton Lange, a Nebraska native who married his high school sweetheart, is the new Camp Darby Provost Marshal.

As provost marshal, Lange serves as the Darby Military Community’s chief law enforcement officer. He is responsible for tracking issues ranging from traffic to asset protection. Already he has nothing but praise for his team – Soldiers from the 529th Military Police Company and U.S. Army Garrison Italy. Among them are several noncommissioned officers and Soldiers who oversee security checks and community engagement. Darby Military Community members should know to call 112 should any issue arise, including fire, traffic accidents, emergency medical, or crime.

“We’re here to help you,” Lange said. “We’ll help you get situated and move forward.”

For Lange, law enforcement work is more than a job – it’s a calling.

“From as young as I could remember, I always knew I wanted to serve my country,” Lange said. “Growing up, I always heard stories of different individuals answering the call to protect their country. We have it good in America and I wanted to help protect that freedom.”

Lange started his military career hoping to fly. He got his aviation degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney before joining the U.S. Army. After basic training and officer candidate school, Lange’s family commitments and personal interests led him to pivot into a military police career.

A commissioned military police officer, Lange completed the Military Police Basic Officer Leadership Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Along with wife, Sarah, Lange served at Fort Carson, Fort Leonard Wood and Fort Riley. Along the way they welcomed their daughters, Kennedy and Cali.

While at Fort Riley, Lange deployed for nine months to Poland for security and law enforcement missions. Upon his return, he and his family moved to their new home at Camp Darby – their first overseas assignment together. So far, they enjoy being in a smaller military community.

“Everybody is very nice at Camp Darby and we really appreciate that,” Lange said. “Whenever we’ve had issues or needed information, every one has been very accommodating. I feel like you don’t always get that at bigger installations.”

An athlete, Lange already completed a marathon in Rome and has taken up cycling. Next up, he hopes to tackle triathlons and Iron Man competitions. He also enjoys hunting and fishing. Professionally, Lange hopes to continue moving forward in his military career.

“I like working in the Army,” Lange said. “You build a lot of camaraderie. I love the sense of being on a team and working together. I could definitely see myself doing 20 years.”
