Construction projects are planned or underway across Redstone Arsenal, from the Fowler Road area to the secure area of Redstone Gateway near Gate 9.
A year ago, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Missile and Space Intelligence Center’s Advanced Analysis Complex at the Richard C. Shelby Center for Missile Intelligence.
The first phase, a 102,000-square-foot, $130 million project currently under construction, is expected to be complete in September 2025, according to Jake Roth, chief of master planning for the Garrison’s Directorate of Public Works.
He said Phase II is a projected $150 million, 154,000-square-foot multi-purpose operational facility including a large data center for high-performance computing. That phase is out for bid, Roth said during his presentation in a Facebook Town Hall.
Another development on post, a Lab Revitalization Project, is a 7,700-square-foot facility for research, development, test, and evaluation for the Space and Missile Defense Command, Roth said. The expected completion date is Nov. 1.
“We’re gearing up for primary substation 4 to be let for bid later this spring,” he said. “We currently have three other primary stations which take high voltage power directly from TVA and step it down for use on our transmission grid on Redstone Arsenal.”
The primary stations are each tied together and capable of distributing power throughout the post, according to Roth. “The fourth station is needed in order to provide necessary electrical capacity to meet demands from all the recent and planned major construction activities on Redstone Arsenal.”
It will also provide additional electrical grid resiliency for the Arsenal by providing a geographically diverse station and additional high-voltage power feed onto Redstone from TVA, he said. Work is expected to start later this winter and should be complete and operational in spring 2026.
The new primary substation will be at the corner of Patton and Mills roads.
Another project that’s visible on the east side of Rideout Road near Gate 9 is the second phase of infrastructure improvements for the secure parcel of Redstone Gateway.
Happening this summer – in the June time frame – will be a Goss Road adjustment, Roth said at the Town Hall event.
Goss Road will be connected to the existing roundabout in the secure parcel, he said, “so we’ll be eliminating that U-turn on Rideout Road and making some more convenient access to Goss Road to get up to Fox Army (Health Center), the golf course and some of those other amenities.”
Derrick Gould, the director of the Garrison’s Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, said work on a nearly 11,000-square-foot Food, Beverage and Entertainment Center near the Commissary will get started in the next few weeks.
Challenger Bingo will be relocated to the new building, which will also offer a new food establishment on the north side of the Arsenal for Redstone housing residents and other installation visitors.
He said the facility’s grand opening will be sometime in summer 2025.
