FORT CAVAZOS, Texas — Fort Cavazos leadership, civic leaders, the Hill Country Transit District and others gathered March 2 at the Community Events Center here to mark the full launch of the Cavazos Connector.

The micro-transit system consists of five zones, which function similarly to popular rideshare applications, and allows riders to be picked up within their housing areas or from their barracks. This service will then bring riders to within a micro-transit zone or transfer them to the circulator route, consisting of 28 stops across the installation. These two systems put ease of access and timely connections at the fingertips of those who call the Great Place home.

Users can get real time updates via the program’s application or a call the dispatch center to book their travel.

The opening event included bouncy houses for children, food trucks and the formal ribbon cutting ceremony. The comprehensive transit system is designed to enhance the quality of life for Soldiers, civilians and their families.

Leaders from across the installation highlighted the program’s ability to positively impact all those who take advantage of it.

“This innovative transit system stands as a demonstration of the ingenuity and commitment that Fort Cavazos leadership has toward improving the quality of life of Soldiers, civilians and families here at the Great Place,” said Col. Lakicia Stokes, U.S. Army Garrison-Fort Cavazos commander. “We are poised to set a new standard for military installation transportation nationwide.”

The fare-free service initiated its beta testing phase Feb. 5, which ran through Friday. During this phase, the circulator route was tested, along with the curb-to-curb service within the barracks micro-transit zone.

At the conclusion of the ribbon cutting ceremony, the Cavazos Connector fleet became fully operational, with multiple micro-transit vehicles departing the venue to provide services across the installation. Anyone with a Department of Defense identification card now has access to all the services the program has to offer.

The Fort Cavazos Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers President Cpl. Kandice Pritchard-Harmon was excited to see the program become fully operational to support all those who call the Great Place home.

“The Cavazos Connector is an amazing addition to our installation’s continued efforts to contribute positively to the enhancement of our welfare and confidence in our installation’s quality of life programs and leadership,” she said. “I have utilized the Cavazos Connector and mobile application first-hand during my after-duty hours to receive the ultimate experience to share with the Fort Cavazos unit BOSS representatives and their respective units with great success.”

The Cavazos Connector promises to reshape the daily experiences of the entire Fort Cavazos community.
