The entire Redstone community is invited to a 5K run/one-mile walk in April in support of child abuse prevention and sexual assault awareness.
Open to all ages, the fourth annual “Power Up to Create Change Through Unity” will be held April 10 at the ChildWise parking lot at 3467 Vincent Drive. Registration for this free event begins at 6:30 a.m. and the run/walk starts at 7.
“April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and also Sexual Assault Awareness Month,” coordinator Tim Rolfe, Family Advocacy Program manager at Army Community Service, said. “It’s to bring the community together and unite around these two very important topics.”
Redstone Senior Commander Lt. Gen. Chris Mohan will give the opening remarks. The run/walk represents a combined effort between the Family Advocacy Program and the Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention program, or SHARP.
“We will have vendors such as the Employee Assistance Program, there’ll be a SHARP table and FAP table set up, and potentially additional vendors,” Rolfe said. “We get approximately 100 runners (each year).”
In inclement weather, the alternate date would be April 24. For more information, call Rolfe at Army Community Service 256-876-5397 or email timothy.rolfe2.civ@army.mil.
