PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. - The Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center is the recipient of the Army's 2009 Large Development Laboratory Award officials here announced Sept. 2.

The award is part of the Army's 2009 Research and Development Laboratory of the Year Awards, which recognize Army research laboratories for their contributions to the Army's capability and readiness during the previous fiscal year.

In a Sept. 2 letter announcing the award winners, Thomas H. Killion, Deputy Assistant to the Secretary of the Army for Research and Technology said the Army Laboratory Assessment Group conducted the review of laboratories.

The assessment group consisted of a distinguished group of science and technology experts from academia, industry and government, he said.

The team concluded that ARDEC stood out as the best large laboratory in the Army for the second year in a row.

ARDEC Director Dr. Joseph A. Lannon congratulated his fellow employees in an e-mail notification stating, "Large achievements such as this reflect the dedication, perseverance and ingenuity of our workforce."

ARDEC provides armaments research, development and engineering for a broad spectrum of armament technologies and products that support the current and future forces of our nation. These include small-, medium- and large-caliber weapons, guidance systems, explosives, warheads, propellants, ammunition and related support systems.

Killion will present ARDEC officials with the award at the Army Acquisition Corps Annual Awards Ceremony in Virginia next month.
