FORT KNOX, Ky. — Contractors are putting the final touches on a recreational area in the Anderson Greens neighborhood that could become the standard for Army housing community playgrounds here.

Dubbed an “all-inclusive playground” by Knox Hills officials, the concept adds equipment that encourages fun play for children with sensory issues as well as the traditional play equipment. Lendlease Communities Senior Marketing Manager Staci Burton said the new equipment is designed to connect with all the children.

“Having an all-inclusive playground helps us continue to build a sense of community for our families here at Fort Knox,” said Burton. “More importantly, it is a benefit for our service members and Families as it creates a space for children, and parents, of varying abilities to play together and provides a variety of emotional, social and educational benefits.”

Burton said this idea, along with several others, came from feedback provided to Resident Advisory Board members from residents as well as through various methods provided like SatisFacts, Customer Satisfaction or CSAT, and the Army Housing Tenant Satisfaction Survey.

“All of [these] ultimately help us identify areas of improvement and desired community upgrades that will enhance the overall community living experience for our service members and Families here at Fort Knox,” said Burton.

Knox Hills is responsible for maintaining 24 playgrounds throughout the Fort Knox footprint. Of those, another playground has been targeted for all-inclusive upgrades at Prichard Place. Burton said a possible third might be added at a later date.

Officials made their decisions on what equipment would be added to the Anderson Greens playground based off professional feedback.

“We worked with a certified playground company who helped us in identifying the equipment needed and the type of surface required to ensure the all-inclusive playgrounds are [Americans with Disabilities Act]-compliant,” said Burton. “The playgrounds will be similar but may vary slightly based on size and location.”

Anderson Greens became the obvious choice for the all-inclusive upgrade, said Burton, because of timing.

“We started the playground in Anderson Greens as it was identified for an upgrade,” said Burton, “and we saw an opportunity to provide an amenity that all children and their families could enjoy.”

The Anderson Greens playground is scheduled to reopen to residents sometime in the spring. The Prichard Place playground is scheduled to reopen sometime in 2026.
