Staff Sgt. Joseph Williams, an Ordnance School instructor here at Fort Gregg-Adams, won several categories Feb. 4, 2024 at the Organization of Competition Bodies (OCB) Body Sculpting Open in Williamsburg, Va.

He earned the status of a Natural Bodybuilding Pro and had wins in the following categories of Men's Physique:

  • Class B Overall Champion
  • 2 x Military Division Overall Champion
  • 40+ Class A Champion
  • 40+ Overall Champion and Pro Card Winner

Williams said that working toward and achieving fitness goals helps instill commitment and consistency to who he is as a military instructor. Being in good health allows him to bring good energy in the classroom when teaching students here at Fort Gregg-Adams.

Williams, who has been competing only since July 2022, credits his wife and coach, Courtney Williams, and his chain of command among others for their support.

"My off-season was from July to September, and I got up to 205lbs," Williams said. "My prep for the show was for 16 weeks, and I dropped weight to 175lbs and bodyfat to between 10-11% from October 1st to January 28th, and then we have what is called Peak Week from the January 29th - February 3, then show day."

Williams plans on competing again to win overall in Open Division.

"For now, I will focus on picking a show to compete in my first Pro show in the Master's Division to qualify for the Olympia of Natural Bodybuilding which is called 'The Yorton Cup,'" Williams said. "I want to start training others to achieve their goals and to help others who want to try to take their chance on competing where I have been with my knowledge and training. I just really want to be an inspiration to the Soldiers and others."
