FORT GREGG-ADAMS, Va. —Soldiers of the Paralegal Training Detachment, Juliet Company, 262nd Quartermaster Battalion, 23rd Quartermaster Brigade took part in a culminating exercise Feb. 2 at the Judge Advocate General’s corps regimental home, The JAG’s Legal Center and School, University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va.

“The paralegals train in a classroom environment on how they would act in a legal office,” said Staff Sgt. Brian Copeland, senior drill sergeant for Juliet Company.

The one-day JAGEX allows graduate course students, Officer Basic Course students, Noncommissioned Officer Academy students, and Advanced Individual Training students to come together to work through scenario-based exercises as a brigade legal section.

“Everything that the paralegals learn in class here gets applied in the scenario-based examples,” Copeland said. “Now they get to work with another sergeant, another staff sergeant paralegal instead of just the instructor in a classroom. They are using what they’re learning next to some experienced paralegals, some experienced attorneys and some inexperienced attorneys—the lieutenants trying to become attorneys.”

Brig. Gen. Alison C. Martin, the commanding general and commandant for TJAGLCS, and Command Sgt. Maj. Shellyann Corbin, the Command Sergeant Major of TJAGLCS and commandant of the NCOA, addressed the Soldiers. Martin presented coins of excellence to a few outstanding Soldiers for their demonstrated professionalism and leadership during their time in Juliet Company.

Juliet Company is composed of paralegal specialists who train to provide legal and administrative support in all areas of criminal law, family law, international law, civil and administrative law, contract law, and fiscal law. They train to assist judges, Army lawyers, and unit commanders with legal matters and judicial work.
