PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. - Army Col. Jonathan A. Maddux has been nominated for promotion to the rank of brigadier general by President Barack Obama, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates announced Aug. 28.

In his third assignment to New Jersey, Maddux is currently serving as the special assistant to the Program Executive Officer for Ammunition here. Maddux's former New Jersey assignments were at Fort Monmouth. His mission is to assist the PEO develop and procure conventional and leap-ahead munitions to increase combat power to service members.

He is slated to become the Program Executive Officer for Ammunition and Picatinny commander Sept. 18.

Maddux's previous acquisition assignments include; Chief of Staff for Office of Assistant Secretary of the Army Acquisition, Logistics and Technology; Project Manager, Future Combat Systems' Network Systems' Integration; Product Manager, Combat Identification, Executive Officer ASA(ALT) Deputy for System Management; Joint Surveillance and Target Attack Radar System and Land Warrior Department of the Army System Coordinator and Communications Director for the Army Space Program Office.

He has held numerous command and staff assignments throughout his 30-plus year military career. He was a Squad Leader for the 82nd Airborne Division Military Police Company; Platoon Leader, 24th Signal Battalion; Aide de Camp for the Commander, Information Systems Engineering Command; Communication and Electronic Staff officer for 2nd Battalion, 5th Field Artillery, 1st Infantry Division (Forward); Company Commander, 38th Signal Battalion, 56th Field Artillery Command (Pershing II); Platoon Trainer, 4th Battalion, Ranger Training Brigade; and Commander, Signal Detachment, 75th Ranger Regiment.

Maddux holds several degrees culminating with a Masters degree in telecommunications from the University of Colorado in Boulder. His military education includes the Signal Officer Basic and Advance Courses, Project Management Course, Defense Systems Management College, Army Command and General Staff College and the Army War College.

His awards include the Legion of Merit with 2 oak leaf clusters (OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (3rd OLC), Army Commendation Medal (5th OLC), Army Achievement Medal (1st OLC), Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kuwaiti Liberation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Master Parachutist Badge, Korean and French Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Department of the Army Staff Identification Badge and the coveted Black and Gold Ranger Tab.

When not at Picatinny, Maddux and his family frequently spend time at their shore home in Lanoka Harbor, N.J.
