PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J.— The Joint Program Executive Office Armaments & Ammunition (JPEO AA) recently announced the appointment of Greg Matson as a Department of Defense Highly Qualified Expert (HQE). Matson's appointment is viewed as a significant enhancement to the organization’s capabilities in strategic supply chain initiatives and the modernization of the U.S. Army’s organic industrial base.

The Department of Defense designates individuals as HQEs based on their exceptional knowledge, skills, and experience in a specific field, as well as the authority and status they are accorded by their peers or the public, according to the Defense Civilian Personnel Advisory Service. This unique role allows the department to leverage expertise not commonly found within the public sector.

Dr. Theresa Smith, Deputy Joint Program Executive Officer Armaments and Ammunition, emphasized the value Matson brings to the team.

“Greg’s expertise will be pivotal in bolstering our strategic supply chain initiatives and organic industrial base modernization efforts”, said Smith.  "His appointment and experience are crucial for the success of rebuilding the Arsenal of Democracy.”

Matson joins the JPEO AA with a robust background in Supply Chain and Operations including leadership positions across supply chain planning, strategic planning, and operations. The majority of his career is within industrial products and private equity operating companies. Most recently he was with Ernst & Young’s management consulting.

“I am excited to work with the joint program executive office during this historic effort to rebuild the Arsenal of Democracy”, said Matson. “Building resilient supply chains with plant modernizations will provide unmatched capabilities to our Joint Warfighter and our international partners.”

In his prior roles, Matson has been instrumental in leading business performance transformations. His focus on end-to-end supply chain strategy encompasses supply chain planning, execution, research and development, product design, new product introduction, strategic support, and private equity operations.

Matson's impact extends beyond his immediate professional environment. He has made substantial contributions to major players in the private sector, shaping his approach to business performance management and improvement. Throughout his consulting career, he has worked with a diverse client base, including small professional service firms, chemical manufacturers, aerospace and defense companies, distribution firms, and life sciences organizations.

Dr. Smith further commented on Matson's role, saying, “With our responsibility to rebuild the Arsenal of Democracy and our role as the Single Manager for Conventional Ammunition, Greg's expertise will be invaluable. We are delighted to welcome him to the Joint Program Executive Office Armaments and Ammunition.”
