PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. - Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) recently announced that 25 members of her congressional district community had been chosen to be honored as “2023 Heroes.”

Among those chosen is Sgt. Faegist M. Adlam, a food inspector at both Picatinny Arsenal and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. Picatinny Arsenal is in the 11th congressional district.

"It is an honor to be recognized for the 2023 heroes in NJ-11 district," said Adlam. "This honor inspires me to continue my efforts into making a positive impact in our community and serve as a role model for my children and the youth."

Adlam, who is also known as Tiffany, has been assigned to Picatinny Arsenal for 27 months.  As a veterinary food specialist, Adlam oversees food safety, quality assurance, and protection from unintentional or intentional contamination of food that her fellow Soldiers and their families will consume.

She is also responsible for supervising food inspections and combined veterinary service activities, ensuring that all food items are packaged according to the Department of Defense standards.

“Adlam is at the forefront of food safety and defense, using statistical sampling methods to make sure food is being inspected for freshness, proper storage and delivery,” said Command Sgt. Maj. David M. Franks, Picatinny Arsenal’s Garrison Command Sergeant Major.

Outside of her normal duties, Adlam is heavily involved in the Picatinny community and participates in local food drives as well as collecting toys for the Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots Program. She also volunteers for a variety of community events at the installation and was a member in the Holiday Ball committee for 2023.

For the most recent Army/Navy football game, Adlam ensured through inspections that the food provided during the game and festivities were up to standards.

Adlam also oversees the social media pages for Picatinny’s military housing, ensuring that families receive the most current information. She also takes the time to tutor those in school, both children and adults, all while being a mother of four children and furthering her own education.

“Upon learning of Congresswoman Sherrill’s 2023 NJ-11 Heroes nominations, Lt. Col. (Alexander D.) Burgos (Picatinny Arsenal Garrison Commander) and I thought of Sgt. Adlam,” Franks said of Adlam’s nomination. “As a command team, whenever we’re engaging in community events, she is always present and providing support. Additionally, we understand the many things she does for our community.”
