SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawai’i — In a significant step towards fostering mutual support and collaboration, U.S. Army Garrison Hawai’i, and the U.S. Army Reserve's Private Public Partnership (P3) program have officially signed a partnership proclamation. The historic event took place today, with Col. Steven McGunegle, Garrison Commander of U.S. Army Garrison Hawai’i, and Alecia Grady, Director of the Private Public Partnership Office, leading the ceremony.
This partnership, encapsulated in a nonbinding proclamation, signifies a commitment to shared objectives and mutual support between the two organizations. This collaboration primarily aims at leveraging the unique skills and leadership qualities of Army Reservists, enhancing employment opportunities, and contributing to skill development in various fields.
Alecia Grady, speaking on the partnership, highlighted the extraordinary attributes of Army Reservists. “Army Reservists bring leadership, adaptability, a strong work ethic, and a diverse skill set, invaluable to the construction industry and beyond," Grady said. "This partnership enables Soldiers to achieve professional fulfillment while serving their country and supporting their families."
Currently, there are over 2,000 Army Reserve Soldiers in 43 units within the State of Hawaii, possessing expertise in multiple fields including medical, logistics, engineering, and military intelligence. This partnership aims to align these skills with relevant employment opportunities.
Integration of Army Reserve members into the workforce will focus on leveraging their professional military and civilian training. "Army Reserve Soldiers are highly trainable, making them ideal candidates for various roles," a spokesperson from the Garrison stated.
Lt. Gen. Jody J. Daniels, Chief of Army Reserve, emphasized the mutual benefits of this collaboration. "Partnerships like these enhance the readiness of our Soldiers, which in turn benefits the Army Reserve. Partners gain access to exceptional employees, often already trained in their industry," Daniels remarked.
Looking forward, the P3 program aims to expand its reach by adding more partnerships across various industries. Since its inception, the program has successfully placed over 1,800 individuals in careers, a testament to its effectiveness and impact.
The partnership also aligns with broader objectives of supporting transitioning Soldiers from active duty to reserve components and maintaining a strong reserve force in the Pacific.
As part of the ceremony, Lt. Col. Phillip Durando, Commander, Veterinary Services Activity, expressed interest in expanding opportunities for Soldiers in the veterinary field. The General Manager of the Hale Koa Hotel Armed Forces Recreation Center, Edward Fagan, also expressed enthusiasm about hiring reservists and National Guard members.
This partnership stands as a model of how military and civilian sectors can collaborate for mutual benefit, enhancing both national defense and the economy. The ceremony concluded with a sense of optimism for the future, marking December 19th as a significant day in the history of U.S. Army Reserve partnerships.
