PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. - Yesterday Brig. Gen. John T. Reim, Commanding General of Picatinny Arsenal and Joint Program Executive Officer Armaments and Ammunition, surprised former Deputy JPEO A&A, Mr. Chris J. Grassano, with the Superior Civilian Service Medal, the second highest award for Department of Army Employees.

Grassano's contributions to the JPEO A&A were extensive during his three-year tenure, having shaped and championed the acquisition and contracting strategy for Ukraine replenishment of 155mm artillery parts, while also aiding in the strategy for the contract to support the 152 M777 Howitzers provided to Ukraine. His leadership in direct support of the JPEO A&A’s Single Manager of Conventional Ammunition mission saw over 175 contract actions awarded with a total value of approximately $1.7B.

Grassano also facilitated the development of the Army Ammunition Plant Modernization Plan to Congress which will result in improved safety, resiliency, compliance, and operational effectiveness.

Grassano now serves as the Director of U.S. Army Capabilities Command (DEVCOM) Armaments Center which is the primary research and development center for new and existing armament systems.
