FORT WALKER Va. – Fort Walker Firefighters held their inaugural formal dance and awards banquet at Beaverdam Events Center at Fort Walker, VA on Saturday, December 9.

Ladies adorned in gowns mingled alongside firefighters in duty uniform, while others wore suits and the command group stood proud in AGSUs. The hall was decorated heavily in red with black accents and gold touches. Deputy Chief Clint Ziadeh was the emcee for the annual awards, of which the winners were heartily cheered by their comrades. Cpt. Josua McCue was presented the “Chiefs Award” for overall excellence by Chief Thomas Acacia. Acacia spoke proudly of McCue during his presentation.

A delightful barbeque meal was prepared by the firefighters themselves. Spectacular brisket which had been smoking since 4:00am that morning was both moist and delicious.

“We created this event to celebrate the accomplishments that our firefighters have achieved over the past few years, and to show our department the appreciation and recognition they deserve for all their hard work.” said Ziadeh, of the formal. The Fire Department intends to carry on this tradition annually from now on.
