If you are looking for an event to get you into the holiday spirit, it is at Redstone Arsenal the first weekend in December.

Winterville, Redstone’s renamed Christmas market, kicks off at the Activity Field on Saturday, Dec. 2. This public event’s hours are 1-8 p.m. Dec. 2 and noon-5 p.m. Dec. 3. The tree lighting is 6 p.m. Dec. 2.

This year’s Christmas market will feature a helicopter candy drop, tree lighting ceremony, and sampling Poinsettia cocktails. Holiday music from the Rocket City Chorus and the U.S. Army Band will fill the air while you enjoy Winterville.

Winterville is a rebranding of the popular Holiday Market and Tree Lighting which has traditionally kicked off the holiday season.

“We recognized it needed a name change,” Stephanie Stone, marketing manager at Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, said. “The reason we changed it from the Holiday Market and Tree Lighting is because we are looking forward to future markets and creating new branding.”

Winterville has a few signature events this year. On Dec. 2, there will be a helicopter candy drop over the Activity Field at 2 p.m. Redstone Senior Commander Lt. Gen. Chris Mohan, the Army Materiel Command deputy commander, will light the Christmas tree at 6 p.m.

Both Saturday and Sunday will feature Gluhwein and Poinsettia cocktails for those wanting holiday spirits to kick off the holiday season.

Winterville has something for everyone. A holiday market lets patrons shop for the perfect Christmas gift. The event features a wide array of food to keep that belly full including chili, German brats, pretzels and cheese.

Kids (and adults) can get their picture made with Mr. and Mrs. Claus. For the active elves, there is a Winter Sports Pavilion with winter games and activities. For the kids there is a Kidpreneur pop-up market and kids crafts.

Winterville, the kickoff for Redstone’s holiday season, is free and open to the public. Winterville happens at the Redstone Activity Field off Patton Road. Enter through Gate 10, Patton Road.
