TOWER BARRACKS, Germany – U.S. Army Installation Management Command picked several individuals to receive the Stalwart Award during a ceremony in San Antonio June 6, 2023, including one civilian employee from U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria.

Peter J. Suh, chief of the Business Operations and Integration Division at the Directorate of Public Works, USAG Bavaria, was one of nine Army civilians who received the 2022 Stalwart Award.

The Stalwart Award honors recipients for their great performance in enabling the command’s success and is the highest honor available for civilians working in IMCOM.

Over the past five years, Suh has used his talents to develop a number of innovative processes and initiatives, one of which has become a formal Army program, the Army Maintenance Application. Bavaria is one of two pilot installations across IMCOM and Suh was instrumental from the very onset and the continuous development of the program today.

“Peter’s contribution and dedication to the program from conceptualizing and developing the idea in Bavaria has revolutionized the way DPW manages maintenance and repair work across the Army,” said John C. Sturtz, director of Public Works. “Peter’s effort has significantly improved a legacy process by introducing technology to bring our work order system into the 21st century. Peter’s a remarkable leader and his extortionary accomplishments, such as the ArMA App will pay dividends for the Army for decades."

Suh has worked for IMCOM since August 2004 and accelerated his career serving in multiple positions with increasing levels of responsibility. Year after year, Suh has demonstrated his technical capabilities and significant contributions to IMCOM’s growing mission, goals and objectives. Suh leads organizational success through the optimization, implementation, and administration of Army programs, technological improvements, financial management, and project management, and is responsible for executing the installation’s $80M annual work plan.

“As the Chief of DPW’s Business Operations and Integration Division, Peter not only manages one of the largest budgets for any DPW, he’s also been able to implement a number of highly effective programs at Grafenwoehr,” Sturtz said.

He has also created a unique project management database system that synchronizes the work of the Master Planning and Engineering Division to help effectively execute funding for projects.

Suh was instrumental in coordinating with the local German authorities to field a formal DPW internship program for high school students, resulting in an almost 90% placement rate for these students in vacant DPW positions.

“It is a great honor, and I am humbled to receive this award, but I couldn’t have done this alone and without the unwavering dedication from my team and the leadership support in Bavaria,” Suh said. “This award truly reflects the hard work and superior performance of the Directorate and epitomizes the remarkable teammates that I am privileged to work with.”

As Suh was unable to attend the conference in San Antonio, the award was presented to him by Col. Kevin A. Poole, the USAG Bavaria Commander, June 29.
