Nowadays, you have to be cautious of everything you do online. Scammers are always trying to get money, goods or services out of unsuspecting people -- and military members are often targets.

Here are three common scams that Army Criminal Investigation Command (CID) officials say affect service members, federal employees and their families.

ROMANCE FRAUDS

Romance scams are perpetrated by online predators go on dating sites claiming to be Soldiers. Army Criminal Investigation Division officials say there have been thousands of claims from people who say they've been scammed on legitimate dating apps and social media sites and have lost tens of thousands of dollars in these frauds.

SEXTORTION

Sextortion involves engaging victims on social media, seducing them into engaging in online sexual activities, then threatening the victim with public exposure and embarrassment if they do not pay a sum of money.

IMPERSONATION

Impersonation scams are attempts to convince a victim to send money or share your personal information with someone pretending to be a government official, such as a debt collector, IS official or service member.
