FORT SILL, Okla. (Oct. 23, 2023) — Hard work and dedication to academics have paid off for Fort Sill resident Tristan J. McKeever, a bright 9th grader at McArthur High School in Lawton.
Tristan was honored as the 2023 1st Place recipient of the $2,000 grand prize in the Exchange "You Made the Grade" program, which rewards military students for their academic excellence.
Tristan, who’s favorite subject is science, plans to invest his winnings in a new cell phone and a laptop for his debate club. His achievements didn't just catch the eye of the Exchange; they also garnered accolades from Fort Sill Garrison Commander Col. Jim Peay.
"I just want to say congratulations on all your hard work. You are a great example to other students, and we look forward to hearing more great things about you. You truly set the example for other students to follow," said Col. Peay.
Tristan’s dad, Air Force Tech Sgt. Josh McKeever, couldn't hold back his pride in his son's accomplishment. "We're really proud of Tristan, he worked very hard for this. We have really smart kids and we're proud of all of them," said Sgt. McKeever.
The award was presented to Tristan by Hollie Morales, General Manager of Fort Sill and Stewart, and Altus and Sheppard Air Force Base Exchanges. Morales echoed the sentiments of appreciation and recognition for Tristan's academic achievements.
"We're here to congratulate Tristan McKeever on winning the Exchange 'You Made the Grade' $2,000 grand prize. It's an honor to be able to reward you for your academic achievements. Hopefully, this makes the effort that you've put into maintaining good grades worth it," said Morales.
The Exchange's "You Made the Grade" program is a key initiative that supports the educational aspirations of military children from 1st through 12th grade, fostering a culture of academic excellence and recognizing the remarkable students within the military community. Through this program, eligible students with a B average or higher can receive various rewards, further motivating them to pursue their academic goals.
This honor bestowed upon Tristan is not just a reward for his scholastic achievements, but also a testament to the supportive environment that Fort Sill and the broader military community provide for the academic pursuits of their young scholars, said Morales.
