FORT DRUM, N.Y. - 10th Mountain Division (LI), Sustainment Brigade, hosts the Best Sustainer of the Quarter Competition, on Oct. 11, 2023, around Fort Drum. The competition involved the Ranger Physical Fitness Test, a 12-mile ruck, land navigation, stress shoot, Combat Survival Water Training and a board.

“The Sustainer of the Quarter Competition was designed to test the physical and mental agility of our sustainers, so we put together seven events that put the Soldiers through rigorous training and test their physical endurance,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Eric Richardson, the 10th Mountain Division Sustainment Brigade senior enlisted advisor.

The events kicked off at 3 A.M. for all the Soldiers, their sponsors and supporters.

“Watching those Soldiers wake up early in the morning and go through those events is very exhilarating,” said Richardson. “It’s rewarding to see our young Soldiers, NCOs, officers, warrant officers all competing in one place.”

The competitors were in good spirits ready to tackle everything thrown at them.

“It’s awesome,” said Capt. Emerson Rainey, 10th Division Sustainment Troops Battalion military schools' officer-in-charge. “It really shows how good 10th Mountain Division and Sustainment Brigade are as an organization; you don’t really see this at other organizations.”

After all the physical events, the competitors participated in a board split between officers and enlisted Soldiers. The board presented a new challenge for officers as officers don’t typically participate in boards.

“We go through the board asking the tough questions about the proficiency in their Military Occupational Specialty and history to test their knowledge,” said Richardson.

On November 8th, the winners of the Best Sustainer Competition will receive their awards along with their picture on the wall at the 10th Mountain Division Sustainment Brigade Head Quarters.

The winners were: Capt. Emerson Rainey, for the officer category, Sgt. Jacob Domo, for the NCO category, and Spc. Emmanuel Boadu, for the junior Soldier category.
