North Carolina A&T State University (1964)
Col. (Ret.) Willie L. Gore was born on April 16, 1942, in Southport, North Carolina. He attended North Carolina A&T State University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and commissioned in 1964.
During his military career, he served over two years in combat with the 82nd Airborne Division, 25th Infantry Division, and the First Cavalry Division.
He holds a Master’s Degree in Education from Howard University, is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and a graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.
He is a charter member of the Army’s Acquisition Corps and served as a Procurement Contracting Officer, Commander of the US Defense Contracts agency in Canada, and Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics for Military Traffic Management Command.
Gore’s final assignment was Senior Contracting Official for the Army Corps of Engineers.
Gore has consistently given back to the ROTC programs. He taught at Howard University as Assistant Professor of Military Science and served 8 years at South Brunswick High School as a Senior Military Instructor. He has been inducted into North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University Aggie Battalion Hall of Fame, current chairman of the Brunswick County Airport Commission, past president of the Kiwanis Club, former member on the Brunswick County Board of Education, and a member of the American Legion Post 213.
After 28 years in uniform, Gore retired on September 1, 1992. His military awards and decorations include the Legit of Merit, Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
About the Army ROTC Hall of Fame
The ROTC Hall of Fame was established in 2016 as part of the ROTC Centennial celebration. The first class (2016) inducted 326 former ROTC Cadets who had distinguished themselves in their military or civilian career.
The Hall of Fame honors graduates of the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps who have distinguished themselves in military or civilian pursuits. It provides a prestigious and tangible means of recognizing and honoring Army ROTC Alumni who have made lasting, significant contributions to the Nation, the Army and the history and traditions of the Army ROTC Program.
