PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. - Nycholas Cole, 24, was administered the Oath of Enlistment on Sep. 29 by Brig. Gen. John Reim, Joint Program Executive Officer Armaments and Ammunition and Commanding General of Picatinny Arsenal.

Cole is the son of retired Sgt. 1st Class Alberta Cole currently the installation's sexual assault response coordinator.

"Growing up and traveling the world with my mom was an adventure I'll never forget,” he said. “From my time living in Korea, to attending and graduating high school in Germany, I was able to see the world from a whole new lens. I am proud of my mom and her 23 years of service in the Army, and I cannot wait to start adventures of my own."

Nycholas was recruited by Staff Sgt. William Bakay of the North Jersey Recruiting Company. The younger Cole enlisted in military occupational specialty (MOS) 91E, Allied Trade Specialist, where he will supervise the fabrication, repair, and modification of metallic and nonmetallic parts to ensure the Army’s equipment is operating reliably.

He is a graduate of Universal Technical Institute in Avondale, Ariz., where he learned to be an automotive mechanic. He chose to be a welder because his goal is to open his own automotive shop with the ability to weld and race cars.

“I have always been proud of Nycholas with whatever he did,” said Alberta of her son. “He grew up as a military dependent and he understands military life and what it requires, and he got it!”

Alberta Cole retired from Active Duty as a Sgt. 1st Class in 2018 after more than 23 years of service as a motor sergeant.
