ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. — Earlier this month, leaders from CECOM’s Software Engineering Center briefed ASA(ALT) Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army Data-Engineering-Software, Ms. Jennifer Swanson, on SEC's strategic initiatives and capabilities. Swanson served as director of SEC from 2017until 2022. Services briefed on included Software Readiness, the E2E Pipeline, cloud solutions and talent upskilling. The meeting was part of SEC’s aim to highlight on-going initiatives that position itself as the premier CI/CD model for the Army.
In the Army’s pursuit of bold, enterprise-wide modernization, the service’s leaders are increasingly focusing on software acquisition reform and looking to industry for help. Since taking over as ALT DASA, Swanson has reiterated the service is adopting a more agile approach to software development and that approach is reflected in the Army’s plan to use software initial capabilities documents and capability needs statements and to work with a team that could help refine the requirements in development sprints.
