REDSTONE ARSENAL, Alabama – Tony “Landen” Vickery, a security specialist for PEO Aviation’s Aviation Mission Systems and Architecture (AMSA) Project Office received Department of the Army recognition for security excellence.
Vickery received the Thomas Dillon Award for Security Excellence in a ceremony Sept. 14. Elizabeth O’Kane Senior Security Advisor, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, G-2 Headquarters, Department of the Army, presented the award to Vickery in front of colleges and family members.
“This is a big deal… this is the only Army Security award that we have. The Thomas Dillon Award is for innovation and creativity and driving change,” said O’Kane.
Rodney Davis, Acting PEO Aviation, addressed Vickery; “We really do appreciate what you do for AMCOM, the PEO and Soldiers. That is what this is all about. Taking care of Soldiers, taking care of Airmen, taking care of Sailors, we're all part of the team and we appreciate what you do. Thank you.”
After receiving the award, Vickery said “I know that I'm standing up here today, but this award has a lot of other people built into it. A lot of people that have invested in me and took the time to show me the ropes and bring me along as the security professional and I'm honored to stand up here. Not for myself, but for all of those people as well.”
Vickery leads AMSA’s security team. In this position he advises project office leadership on security and technology protection matters and develops and implements a multi-disciplined security program with responsibility for 400 geographically displaced personnel and a 225-million-dollar portfolio funding 53 programs and products.
Among other achievements, Vickery was recognized for his role in the development of the Army Critical Technology Identification Tool which is used across the Army to identify and ensure that emerging technologies are properly protected throughout the acquisition lifecycle.
The Thomas Dillon Award for Security Excellence is awarded annually to an Army security professional for outstanding contributions and performance that further the Army's security posture and protect national defense information. It is designed to reflect unique and important contributions made by Army security professionals and is a way to recognize, celebrate and take pride in their achievements.
