ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. — On Aug. 26, 1920, citizens were guaranteed the right to vote regardless of their sex through the ratification of the U.S. Constitution’s 19th Amendment. In recognition of the anniversary of women succeeding in their fight for the right to vote, APG’s Federal Women’s Program and U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Army Research Laboratory hosted the Women’s Equality Day celebration in the Myer Auditorium, Aug. 24, 2023. Harford Community College’s president, Dr. Theresa B. Felder, served as the event’s guest speaker.

“I believe that our stories are powerful; that all of us have a story and our stories have the ability to inspire and motivate and give voice to our struggles and our triumphs,” Felder said.

“As we celebrate Women’s Equality Day, let’s remember the women who have come before us,” she continued. “[Their] stories have paved the way for us to be where we are today.”

Woman of the Year was awarded to Julie M. Issac, deputy project manager of Program Executive Office Intelligence, Electronic Warfare & Sensors, Project Manager Positioning, Navigation, and Timing.

Supervisor of the Year was awarded to Marnie Bailey, supervisor general engineer of DEVCOM C5ISR Center, Research and Technology Integration Directorate.

Organization Most Supportive of FWP Goals was awarded to DEVCOM.

Maryland Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army Mary Jane Jernigan rewarded nominees and winners with letters of recognition and CASA coins.

Chair of APG’s FWP and Financial Specialist for DEVCOM ARL Nicole R. Karashin provided closing remarks for the celebration.

“[APG’s FWP] strives to motivate, educate, and inspire,” she stated. “During Women’s History Month, I challenged all of you to continue learning year-round, not to isolate it to one month. Today is a great day to continue that mission.”
