Garrison Commander Col. Brian Cozine welcomed the sun-drenched golfers at Saturday’s annual Garrison Scramble held at the Links.

The tournament drew 108 competitors, 27 four-member teams, for 18 holes on the Patriot course.

The winning team of the 1st flight with a 14-under 58 had John Cathey, his son Travis, Rudy Gil Sr. and Hap Terrell.

“The way we did it was course knowledge from the super senior champion (Terrell),” John Cathey, who organized the team, said. “We rode him till he broke.”

“It was fun,” Terrell said.

The other winners included: 2nd flight, David Brown, Austin Brown, Jonathan Bryan and Grant Lowman, 63; and 3rd flight, Al Carreon, Gary Jerauld, Mike Yeager and George Robertson, 67.

After play, the golfers enjoyed lunch prepared by Weeden Mountain Grill’s Gilbert Morey and Brandy Knox. The menu had pork loin with a broccoli casserole, oven-roasted potatoes and a roll.

“The pork loin and broccoli casserole are recipes that are my own,” Morey, the Weeden Mountain Grill cook, said. He arrived in June 2022 from Los Angeles, and he moved from Albertville to Huntsville this May.

Drake’s Restaurant and IHG Army Hotels were tournament sponsors.

Next up for the Links is the club championship Sept. 16-17 on both the Patriot and Warrior courses.
