Congratulations to Maj. John Mayer, the executive officer for the U.S. Army Security Assistance Training Management Organization. Mayer has been selected to participate in the Battalion Command Assessment Program. BCAP is the Army’s new command assessment program for selecting battalion commanders, who typically lead a unit of approximately 1,000 Soldiers. BCAP participants attend an intense, four-day event at Fort Knox, Kentucky, where they are tested on their physical and cognitive fitness, tackle a team problem-solving exercise with a group of other officers, undergo a psychological assessment, and attend a double-blind panel interview. Candidates are ranked in order as ready for command, not yet ready for command, or alternates. The program is proving to be a game-changer for the selection of future Army leaders. Mayer, who is expected to attend BCAP later this fall, said he is looking forward to the challenge and expects to complete BCAP as an even better leader.
