FORT HUACHUCA, Ariz. – Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Center held a change of command ceremony bidding farewell to outgoing commander Lt. Col. Marie E. Carmona and welcoming incoming commander Lt. Col. Daniel H. Tenhagen, June 22 at Brown Parade Field.

“There have been many mountains and valleys that I’ve walked in these last two years, but I’ve never walked them alone,” Carmona said.

“Over the last two years this organization has weathered a pandemic, implemented a new electronic medical record, gone through an update to that electronic medical record, planned and executed mass vaccine rodeos, passed numerous SABs, passed The Joint Commission survey from the medical credentialing organization – this survey ensured that Raymond W. Bliss as a whole, and particularly, the primary care medical home and the behavioral health clinic are fully certified and validates we uphold the highest standards in patient care.

“We started sending Soldiers to Air Assault [school] with six graduates so far, and one of those being the distinguished honor graduate. The unit has conducted three field trainings, with the last one bringing in a MEDEVAC to assist with training and ensuring we didn’t just check the blocks, we got after the intent of [Medical Readiness Command, West] and [U.S. Army Medical Command] of a ready medical force,” Carmona said.

“We signed agreements with Canyon Vista Medical Center which will allow our Soldiers to train in their facilities, increasing their medical skills and building relationships with our local partners. Within the last month alone, the IMD section passed the Defense Health Agency Cyber Health and Readiness Inspection Program, receiving an unheard-of Maturity Level four. When many other facilities are receiving a level one or two, we set the standard.

“All these accomplishments and many more are only due to the entire team at Raymond W. Bliss. Every day your passion shines through and you inspire me. I know you don’t hear it enough but thank you. Thank you for what you do every day to make this organization even better,” Carmona said.

Tenhagen arrives at Fort Huachuca from his last assignment as Chief of Medical Operations, Headquarters, U.S. Special Operations Command, McDill Air Force Base, Tampa, Florida.

Addressing the crowd Tenhagen said he is excited to begin command, and, “I will strive to take this outstanding organization with dignity and honor and achieve new heights.”

“It is with great honor and a humbling privilege I stand before you today as the new commander of the Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Center,” he said.
