Video recordings of safety presentations featured during the Naval Safety and Environmental Training Center’s 31st Annual Joint Safety and Environmental Professional Development Symposium (PDS) are now available online for those seeking free training and continuing education units (CEUs).

The PDS is a professional development opportunity for Department of Defense uniformed and civilian professionals to share innovative ideas and new trends and information in the areas of safety and occupational health, environmental protection and industrial hygiene. This year’s event was hosted April 17-21 in an online venue using the web conferencing tool Adobe Connect.

The U.S. Army Combat Readiness Center (USACRC) was among the presenters at the PDS and hosted a claimant session that covered:

  • The Army Readiness Assessment Program
  • The Fourth-Quarter Aviation Mishap Spike
  • The Joint Risk Assessment Tool
  • PMV-2 (Motorcycle) Mishap Trends in the Army
  • PMV-4 (Automobile) Mishap Trends in the Army
  • Military Occupational Specialty Driving Analysis
  • Tactical Vehicle Rollover Trends
  • R Techniques for Analysis

Additionally, the USACRC hosted breakout training sessions highlighting several Army Safety Management Information System 2.0 (ASMIS 2.0) applications, including SOH Program Management; Assessments, Inspections and Surveys; Mishap and Near Miss Reporting; SOH Training and Education; and Hazard Management, as well as support development for ASMIS 2.0. Separate presentations also included the Army keynote address and the changes made to Department of Defense Human Factors Analysis and Classification System version 8.0 and the reasons behind them.

Most sessions during the PDS were recorded to give participants an opportunity to further their professional development. If you did not register for this year’s PDS, please use the registration link below to receive a confirmation email that will direct you to iSchedule, where you will be able to view the recordings and receive certificates. Remember to bookmark the link for easy access over the next several months. If you previously registered and attended the 2023 PDS, use the second link below to access the recordings, which will be available until September 2023.

Please note that the PDS certificates document the length of the training. If you are seeking CEUs, you must convert the hours into CEUs and provide to your certifying organization. Most organizations consider one training hour to equal .1 CEU.

The Joint Safety and Environmental PDS has been presented online since 2013 and continues to grow both in the number of attendees and topics offered. The 2022 PDS provided more than 100 educational sessions to over 2,900 registered participants from the United States and 35 countries. Participants’ backgrounds ranged from safety, industrial hygiene, environmental, occupational health, public health, radiation health and occupational medicine.

The 32nd Annual Joint Safety and Environmental PDS is scheduled for April 22-26, 2024. Additional information on the call for speakers and registration instructions will be released when available.
