Six truck transported the supplies to Riga, Latvia. They arrived on March 31. After a customs check, the U.S. Embassy in Latvia sent the shipment to the Riga State Fire and Rescue Services, who then put the supplies to immediate use supporting the area’s refugee population. According to Wick, Latvia currently hosts the fifth-highest number of Ukrainian refugees per capita.

“By the end of November 2022, 35,000 Ukrainians were receiving public assistance in Latvia, and more than 210,000 Ukrainians have already entered the country,” Wick said. “The items requested were chosen because they are easily transportable, durable, don’t require mattresses, and can be quickly set up for emergency shelters or temporary accommodations.”
