FORT DETRICK, Md. - Maryland's Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce recognized Forest Glen’s Engine 754 with the 2023 Montgomery County Public Safety Award on March 8 for their immediate actions on the morning of March 3, 2022.

During breakfast that day, Station 54 witnessed a townhouse explosion across the street. Forest Glen’s Engine 754 and Battalion Chief 754 were immediately dispatched and arrived on the scene within one minute. Upon arrival, the engine crew and chief observed a partially collapsed, large, multiple stories building with heavy fire conditions consuming the building. The crew immediately observed several casualties present on the ground outside the building and victims present in the windows on the second floor of the building. At time of observation, the status of victims trapped underneath the rubble was not known. The crew immediately started searching for trapped victims, rescuing them from the 8th floor and moving them to a safe refuge in the building. Engine 754 secured a water source from the nearby fire hydrant, all within seconds. As they performed this second nature task, the crew instantaneously deployed an attack line to the inside of the burning building to rescue the trapped victims. Engine 754’s crew quickly followed their attack line, making their way from top to bottom of the building, fighting the fire as they searched for casualties.

Forest Glen Fire Department remained busy and committed to the safety of the residents in the local community and employees of Forest Glen and in 2022 Forest Glen responded to 548 calls.

Fire officials said: our people are well equipped and trained for these types of missions and we are proud to be able to help our neighbors in the community. The chance to help and save lives is extremely important. We continue to stand ready to support our community during this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with those directly affected by this incident.
