FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. — On Friday, we will observe U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command’s spring training holiday. This weekend is a great time to spend with friends and family and experience the Ozarks.
Leaders, we expect you to know the plans of those in your care and discuss safe practices for travel, driving, hunting and other outdoor activities. Look out for each other and remain available.
Peak tornado season is from April to June. Identify the safest locations to shelter in your house in case of a tornado — including the basement, storm shelter or interior rooms and hallways on the lowest floor. Know the signs of a tornado, such as dark-green skies, funnel or rotating clouds, and loud roars from the sky. If a tornado forms while you are away from your house, seek shelter immediately and do not attempt to outrun or drive through the tornado. If you cannot reach shelter in time, lie down in a low-lying area. Storms and flooding are also a risk for this time of the year — monitor the weather, plan accordingly and never attempt to drive across flooded roadways.
Spring turkey hunting season begins this month. Follow all laws and regulations if you plan on participating or shooting recreationally. Store weapons in a safe, locked case or with a trigger lock when not in use.
Motorcycle, watercraft or recreational vehicle operators must be properly licensed and trained. Wear the appropriate safety equipment required for your vehicle, including helmets, protective clothing, gloves and life jackets. Never operate any vehicle while under the influence, distracted or drowsy. Ensure everyone in your vehicle has fastened their seatbelts and adjust driving speeds to the weather and road conditions.
Enjoy your weekend and stay safe. We are proud to serve with you!
