REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. – After working more than 12 years as a security manager for Army Materiel Command’s headquarters, Virginia Buck is being honored for her exemplary performance.

Buck received the AMC Employee of the Quarter Award for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2022.

“I am honored to receive this award and I am privileged to be an advocate for our civilians and military members while strengthening our Army’s workforce,” she said.

The Employee of the Quarter program awards civilian and military personnel who have made positive impacts on accomplishing the command's mission during the quarter. They are chosen from among AMC's 165,000-member worldwide workforce and are recognized for exceeding expectations.

AMC recognized Buck because of her contributions in building AMC Headquarters’ personnel database. The database was created to ensure employees have the up-to-date credentials and trainings needed to access the headquarters building.

Buck was grateful to be recognized for the award and to continue in her family’s footsteps of civil service. Growing up in an Army family inspired her career in federal service. Her father’s service in the Army introduced her to all the possibilities the Army offers and sparked her passion for supporting the Army’s greatest asset- it’s people. Buck started with the Army as a secretary 13 years before working in the security field.

“When I was a secretary for a major, I learned how things work for the Army and how to take care of people,” Buck said.

She continues to use these skills in her role as security manager at AMC.

“I grew up with a whole family of service, so I know first-hand how important it is to support our Soldiers,” Buck said. “My favorite part of this job is taking care of people and protecting the warfighter. I want to be the person people can feel comfortable coming to with the issues they are facing.”

She also thanked those who are supporting AMC’s people alongside her and wanted to highlight the importance of security manager’s roles.

“My job is a little different every day, from leading secret open storage trainings, updating our personnel database to listening to people who come to me with questions and concerns,” Buck said. “Security is crucial to keeping our people safe.”
