SGLI Update

The SGLI maximum you can elect went up to $500,000 effective March 1 under a change in the law. VA Life Insurance has affordable life insurance products available to service members and veterans as an earned benefit. Life insurance is a benefit that can be used to "protect those who matter most" by securing their family's financial future through end-of-life planning, providing income replacement, and offering financial flexibility for the family once the person has passed.

Career Fair at Zama Middle High School

(Photo Credit: U.S. Army) VIEW ORIGINAL

Zama Middle High School will host a Career Fair April 13 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the school, and they are currently seeking individuals from a variety of career fields who would be interested in representing their field at the event.

Per ZMHS teacher Lyndsay Morrison: “The goal is for students to be exposed to a variety of careers across many different career clusters. Because we are on a military installation in an overseas location, our students do not have the same level of access to career readiness resources as stateside schools, but we are willing to do all that we can to ensure their experiences in preparing for life after high school are not limited.”

If you, or other members of your unit or organization are interested in presenting at the Career Fair, please complete the Google form found at the following link: https://forms.gle/krBZpeLoD3diUxeD6 or by scanning the QR code in the flyer below.

Immediate information needed from applicants is as follows:

- Name(s) of the presenter(s)

- Educational experience or career/job to be discussed

The deadline to submit the interest form is March 31.

Transition from Heating to Cooling Season

Intermittent heating will start on or around April 14 as the Garrison begins to transition to the cooling season.

Heating will be provided based on following criteria:

·       70 degrees or lower from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.

·       55 degrees or lower from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Following the intermittent heating period, DPW will transition into a “no heating/no cooling” period on or around April 21, which will allow DPW to perform necessary preventive maintenance, checks, and services required on cooling systems throughout installation prior to cooling period.

During the no heating/no cooling period, facility/building managers must ensure occupants maximize use of natural ventilation by opening windows and common area entrances.

The following facilities will be provided a priority of a controlled environment service: DODEA Schools, MEDDAC, the Exchange, the Camp Zama Community Club, and others without natural ventilation.

Based on historical weather records, the intermittent cooling period is projected to begin on or around May 8, based on the following criteria:

·       Daytime: Implementation of the cooling period is based on outside heat index of 76 degrees or greater for three consecutive days.

·       Nighttime: Cooling for quarters is based on outside heat index of 74 degrees or greater for three consecutive days.

If the cooling begins as predicted in housing areas on May 8, the full transition will be completed on May 12. After that, work areas will begin on May 15 and will be completed on May 19.
