SEMBACH ARMY BASE, Germany (March 16, 2023) – Members of the 409th Contracting Support Brigade assessed their ability to provide acquisition support throughout the European theater while exercising their readiness posture in an Army Contracting Command External Evaluation Feb. 27 through March 10 here.

The ACC External Evaluation measured the 409th CSB’s training proficiency while testing the unit’s command and control, communications, movement and operations in a simulated environment.

Led by Col. Jarrett Moffitt, the 409th CSB commander, and Command Sgt. Maj. Della Overton, the brigade command sergeant major, the 409th CSB provides enhanced readiness and operational capacity for U.S. forces in the European theater. The brigade delivers contracted commercial capability and business advice to support sustaining, shaping and decisive operations in order to maintain a strong Europe.

“We are an indispensable partner in enabling readiness and mission success for Army units in the region and those coming here to train,” Moffitt said. “In addition to providing the full range of contracting support throughout Europe, our contracting professionals are supporting Operation Assure, Deter and Reinforce to reinforce NATO’s eastern flank and provide acquisition expertise for multinational exercises across the European continent.”

During the External Evaluation, Moffitt briefed the brigade’s primary mission partner, Maj. Gen. James Smith, the commanding general of the 21st Theater Sustainment Command. Part of the 409th CSB mission is to provide trained and deployable contracting assets to support U.S. Army Europe exercises, contingencies and peacekeeping operations to integrate the power of Army contracting with units throughout the area of responsibility.

External Evaluations are about contracting operations integration, said Col. Robert Miceli, the ACC deputy commanding officer for overseas operations. “The 409th did a phenomenal job during this EXEval. Doing this evaluation in the middle of a high-operations tempo required some Herculean efforts by members of the brigade. There are a lot of great contracting professionals here that will eventually move on to other areas of the ACC enterprise. Having this EXEval and bringing in the expertise of our people here to share best practices is what makes this evaluation great so our people can carry these lessons learned to their next contracting unit.”

With a motto of "Always forward," members of the 409th CSB continue to provide contracted goods and services vital to helping Army forces in Europe win today.
