FORT KNOX, Ky. — Barr Memorial Library will present author Christopher Gorham at a virtual event Monday, March 27, at 1 p.m., where he will discuss his latest biography, The Confidante: The Untold Story of the Woman Who Helped Win WWII and Shape Modern America.
Far from a household name, Anna (“The Confidante”) Rosenberg was a trusted advisor to both presidents Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman during World War II.
Rosenberg rose to the highest level of American power from modest, immigrant beginnings, contributing to both the war effort and postwar prosperity. She was involved in the New Deal, helped preserve the secrecy of the atomic bomb, and guided the direction of the G.I. Bill. She served as Assistant Secretary of Defense during the Cold War and was recognized with the first Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States.
Targeted as a Communist by Senator Joseph McCarthy (and unfortunately sharing the surname of atomic spies Julius and Ethel Rosenberg), Rosenberg survived and prospered in the turbulent 1950s and 1960s. The release of this biography is a timed release for Women’s History Month 2023.
Gorham is a lawyer and teacher of modern American History at Westford Academy, outside Boston. He holds degrees in history from Tufts University and the University of Michigan. He holds a J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law. His writings have appeared in The Washington Post and online journals.
The event is free and open to the public and can be accessed by joining via a library provided QR code or following the link from the library’s Facebook page. For more information, call the library at 502-624-1232.
