WASHINGTON — As 2023 began, Chaplain (Major General) Thomas Solhjem, the U.S. Army Chief of Chaplains, directed the development of a strategy to launch a global Army campaign to encourage the spiritual practices of prayer, fasting, meditation, and acts of service. The team in the Office of the Chief of Chaplains developed the “Rally Cry!” initiative in response to this directive.
“Rally Cry!” is intended to provide focus to the Chaplain Corps’ work of enhancing life-giving community, combatting harmful behaviors, and expanding spiritual awareness and readiness across the Army. “Rally Cry!” provides that focus with the following monthly themes:
January: Justice
February: Selfless Service
March: Women in Leadership
April: Dignity and Respect
May: Mental Readiness
June: Army Birthday
July: Religious Freedom; Chaplain Corps Birthday
August: Spiritual Readiness
September: Protect and Prevent
October: Peace and Healing
November: Thanksgiving
December: Family
Chaplain Solhjem invites everyone in the Army Family to join this initiative personally, as members of the Chaplain Corps lead the initiative by sharing and modelling with those around them the importance and power of prayer, fasting, meditation, and acts of service.
The Army Chaplain Corps builds Army spiritual readiness, to ensure that the Army’s People can overcome both external and internal threats. Prayer unlocks answers. Fasting amplifies the voice of God. Meditation deepens one’s convictions. And acts of service strengthen our relationships and our communities. As we intentionally and deliberately engage in these spiritual practices together, we build spiritual synergy with one another.
If you have questions about this initiative, please contact your Unit Ministry Teams or the staff at your local post chapels.
Communication resources supporting the initiative appear below:
During the month of April, the Army Chaplain Corps team invites you to join us to pray, fast, meditate, and serve to actualize DIGNITY AND RESPECT FOR ALL. As April is “Sexual Assault Awareness Month,” we must commit to combating this evil by all means available, especially the spiritual means that make us who we are individually and corporately as the Army’s Chaplain Corps.
