Zama International Association Multicultural Festival
The Zama International Association will host its annual Multicultural Festival March 5 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at Sunny Place Zama, located next to Zama City Hall.

The Z.I.A. are holding an open recruitment for individuals or groups who would like to stage an authentic cultural music or dance performance during the event.

Applications to perform are due to the Z.I.A. by Jan. 20. You can apply by visiting the Z.I.A. Office at 2-2887-2 Zama City, by calling 046-215-9000, or by emailing z.i.a.040501@kdr.biglobe.ne.jp.

The Z.I.A. Office is open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Increase in Postage Prices

Effective Jan. 22, the U.S. Postal Service will increase the price of First Class Mail and Forever postage stamps.

Great Zama ‘Shake Out’ Drill

Zama City plans to hold the “Great Zama Shake Out” drill Jan. 23 in an effort to better prepare its community for earthquakes by practicing the 1-2-3 safety steps of dropping, covering and holding onto something stable. The drill, which will take place at 11 a.m. and last for one minute, is a great reminder for the U.S. Army in Japan community to also practice earthquake preparedness and to have an emergency plan in place.

 

Free Throw Competition

A free throw competition will be held Jan. 25 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Yano Fitness Center.

The event will have men’s and women’s divisions and is open to all military personnel, retirees, Department of the Army civilians, AAFES employees, SOFA family members, JGSDF members and local-national employees who are 18 or older and out of high school. There is no cost to enter this event.

The deadline to register is Jan. 25 at 6 p.m., and entrants can do so by visiting the front desk at Yano.

This is a Commander’s Cup event, and awards will be given to the first- and second-place finishers in both divisions.

3-Point Shootout Competition

A 3-point shootout competition will be held Feb. 2 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Yano Fitness Center.

The event will have men’s and women’s divisions and is open to all military personnel, retirees, Department of the Army civilians, AAFES employees, SOFA family members, JGSDF members and local-national employees who are 18 or older and out of high school. There is no cost to enter this event.

Kanto Plain Basketball Jam Fest Competition

The inaugural Kanto Plain Basketball Jam Fest competition will be held Feb. 18 and 19 at the Yano Fitness Center.

The competition is open to the first six teams that sign up, and the registration fee is $500 per team. Teams must register at the Yano front desk by Feb. 1 at 9 p.m. All players must be 18 or older and out of high school.

Awards will be presented to the first- and second-place teams, with the winning team receiving an MVP trophy.

No-Drone Zone

All U.S. Army in Japan installations are “no-drone zones,” meaning all drone usage is prohibited. That includes the very popular toy drones.

Also be advised that Japan has strict drone usage laws and if you intend to fly one off post, you should ensure you understand those laws.

 

Time Change for Booking Space-Available Appointments

The BG Sams U.S. Army Health Clinic recently changed the time for space-available patients to call for scheduling a same-day appointment. The time has changed from 11 a.m. to 10 a.m., and calls can be made to DSN 262-4175 or 046-407-4175.

Pfizer Vaccine Available for Children Ages 5 to 11
