<h4>Adopt a Soldier</h4>

<p>Soldiers who are students attending the Ordnance Munitions and Electronics Maintenance School are invited each year to share Thanksgiving dinner with civilian families through the Williams Elementary and Technology Middle School "Adopt a Soldier" program. The Soldiers have an opportunity to interact with the local community and enjoy southern hospitality while taking an extended holiday break from their rigorous academic schedule. <a href="http://www.adoptasoldierplatoon.org/aboutus.html">www.adoptasoldierplatoon.org.</a> </p>

<h4>Space Camp Scholarship Awards</h4>

<p>The Space Camp Scholarship Committee annually awards scholarships to children of active duty and retired military to attend the United States Space and Rocket Center Space Camp, Space Academy, and Aviation Challenge camps located in Huntsville. The children are selected through an essay competition. The program has been in effect for over 24 years. </p>

<h4>Army Emergency Relief Support</h4>

<p>Over the past year, the Huntsville civilian community has donated more than $75,000 to Soldiers through donations to Army Emergency Relief (AER). Examples of events include: The Huntsville Havoc, a local ice hockey team, hosted a Military Appreciation Night. As part of the event, the Havoc team highlights AER and holds an ice-hockey jersey auction immediately following the game. One hundred percent of the proceeds of the auction go to AER. A local private organization known as Vets with Vettes and Corvette Owners conduct an annual car show "Cars and Camouflage" with the proceeds of the exhibition going to AER. </p>

<h4>Wounded Warrior Support</h4>

<p>Still Serving Veterans (SSV), located in Huntsville, this organization is focused on continuing the nurturing and enabling of wounded warriors in their new long-term career goals. SSV's mission is to empower wounded veterans, and their families, by helping them reintegrate into the workforce and community via counseling, coaching, guiding, job transition, and assistance in obtaining all Veterans Administration (VA) benefits to which they are entitled. SSV partners with agencies such as Huntsville Rehabilitation Foundation, VA and the Army Wounded Warrior Program.

<h4>Huntsville/Madison County Armed Forces Week Celebration</h4>

<p>An annual week-long series of events planned by the City of Huntsville, Madison County, the Chamber of Commerce of Huntsville/Madison County, and the Association of the U.S. Army to show the community's appreciation to the military. </p>

<h4>Operation Christmas Bear</h4>

<p>The North Alabama Veterans and Fraternal Organization Coalition hosts an annual community-sponsored event called Operation Christmas Bear for military families in the north Alabama region. The event specifically targets those families whose spouses are deployed. It's an opportunity to offer support and share with families opportunities offered on the installation as well as within the community. <a href="http://navfoc.org/node/19"> http://navfoc.org.</a> </p>
