Picatinny Arsenal installation officials held a “Walking Town Hall” for Picatinny residents earlier this month that focused primarily on the benefits of preventative maintenance.

The Dec. 7 event was held in one of the vacant homes in the housing area and allowed residents to meet and speak with various subject matter experts. The event was hosted by the Picatinny Arsenal Housing Office and Balfour Beatty Communities, managers of the Picatinny Homes program.

Picatinny Homes is a residential community offering a variety of rental homes to active-duty military families assigned to Picatinny Arsenal.

The gathering included representatives from the Department of Public Works, American Water, Safety, Picatinny Arsenal Fire Department, Employee Assistance Program, and Family Morale, Welfare and Recreation. They joined housing officials in discussing programs and services offered on post, and were available to address any questions or concerns by residents.

“One of the key things that we want to outline is that there is clear communication between the garrison and our community residents,” Lt. Col. Alexander Burgos, Picatinny Arsenal garrison commander, said during the gathering with attendees.

Residents received maintenance tips that can help keep operations such as heating and cooling running more efficiently in their homes.

Those in attendance were also reminded to complete their annual tenant satisfaction surveys. Survey results will help guide future plans for improvements to housing, resident services, and community amenities.

“All of the stuff that you (housing residents) put into surveys, your concerns, are our concerns, and we are using those comments when we address senior leadership,” Burgos said.

Army privatized, government-owned and government-leased housing tenants were able to rate their satisfaction with services, property, and the overall housing experience through the online survey, which closed on Dec. 16.

Army officials use survey results as one of several tools to continue identifying ways to improve housing conditions by enhancing communication with residents, creating and prioritizing action plans to correct deficiencies, and identifying areas most important to residents.

At the event, housing officials also announced two more winners randomly selected from a drawing after completing their tenant satisfaction surveys. Chief Warrant Officer 4 Adam Greene and Staff Sgt. Rafael Abreau, joined Edward Jordan who was selected in November.

Tenants are reminded to call 973-328-2992 and select option 2 if they need to submit a work order for service or repairs. The line is operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
