FORT BELVOIR, Va. -- More than 50 individuals of all ages, including a few infants took part in FMWR's Family Campout over the weekend in Tompkins Basin.

Good weather prevailed as campers took part in numerous available activities, including hiking, biking, fishing, canoeing and kayaking.

Campers ranged from the prepared-for-everything to first-time novices. The common element they shared was enjoying being outside and in the elements.

Brianna Carter, FMWR recreation specialist was enthused about the number of people in attendance.

"It really is a great opportunity for everyone to find out how much fun camping is," Carter said as she built a fire for roasting marshmallows.

Three more Family Campout events are scheduled for the fall. Dates are Sept. 26-27, Oct.24-25, and Nov.14-15. Each event is scheduled from 10 a.m. until noon the following day.
