SAN ANTONIO -- The National Defense Center for Energy and Environment (NDCEE) announced eight technology projects selected to receive funding for demonstration and validation beginning in 2023.
The following projects were selected to begin in the fiscal year 2023:
- Advanced Refrigerated Container System (ARCS)
- Robotic Pulsed Water Jet De-Painting of Aircraft Confined Spaces
- Deployable Potable Water Production from Contaminated Surface and Ground Waters
- Direct Current Ground Microgrid Architecture (DCGMA)
- Anti-Vibration Seat Pads to Improve Health and Safety of DoD Operators
- Large Capacity Hybrid Power Systems (LCHPS)
- On-Site Disposal of Aqueous Film-Forming Foam (AFFF) using Hydrothermal Destruction + PFAS Effluent Treatment System (PETS)
- Super Critical Water Oxidation (SCWO) of PFAS on Spent Sorbents and Ion Exchange Resins
The NDCEE was established to help DoD and the warfighter achieve performance advantages, enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness, and comply with regulations for its installations, ranges, and weapon systems. As a proactive program, NDCEE’s scope has changed from addressing high-priority environmental problems to also including safety, occupational health, energy, and climate change technologies.
With a focus on mission, readiness, and modernization, NDCEE remains a critical program in identifying and solving environmental, safety, occupational health, energy (ESOHE), and climate change challenges by providing a productive platform for research, demonstration, validation, and transition of sustainable technologies, all which contribute toward a more resilient and strong future.
Technologies selected by NDCEE are from DoD agencies seeking to demonstrate, validate and transition commercially available off-the-shelf (COTS) as well as recent laboratory innovations for military application at DoD installations. Proven technologies are transitioned to the services, other federal agencies, and the public.
The Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army (Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health) is designated by the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Installations, Energy, and Environment) as the NDCEE DoD lead agent, and U.S. Army Environmental Command provides NDCEE program management.
Transitioned projects will ensure the NDCEE program remains an enabler in accomplishing the DoD mission with an emphasis on achieving dominant capabilities through innovation and technical excellence.
