FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. — This week, we recognize the third anniversary of the establishment of our nation’s newest military branch of service: the United States Space Force. On Dec. 20th, we highlight every professional who has earned the honor to be called “Guardian.”

The U.S. Space Force was established in 2019, after the passage and approval of the National Defense Authorization Act. The U.S. Space Force provides critical capabilities to America, as protecting the space domain remains a national security imperative.

The Space Force mission is to organize, train and equip Guardians to conduct global space operations. They also support the Department of Defense in addressing and adapting to emerging strategic challenges.

Our nation’s Guardians maintain control of satellites, provide security and threat support, and monitor global missile launches, all while also developing space superiority, an emerging capability requirement.

Over the past three years, our U.S. Space Force developed partnerships with other services and nations; demonstrated innovation in our military; and published its capstone doctrine, “Spacepower: Doctrine for Space Forces,” which further describes its missions.

We are grateful for the Space Force and we appreciate every Guardian and their families for their commitment to our nation’s defense. Happy 3rd birthday, United States Space Force. We are proud to serve with you. Semper Supra (Always Above)!
