FORT BLISS, Texas - 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss conducted a mobilization tabletop exercise at the Fort Bliss Mission Training Center Nov. 22.

The division brought together key stakeholders, including members of First Army, Army Sustainment Command, III Armored Corps, and the Fort Bliss Garrison, to look at the requirements for large-scale mobilization operations at Fort Bliss.

As the Army’s largest Mobilization Force Generation Installation, Fort Bliss continually mobilizes and deploys units from all three Army components throughout the year. The exercise goal was to identify the requirements needed to increase mobilization capacity to ensure smooth and efficient operations in the event the Army must conduct large-scale combat operations anywhere in the world.

“Fort Bliss must be ready to respond to significant deployment and mobilization requirements as a core mission function. Assessing capabilities and conducting rehearsals for this mission will always remain one of my top priorities,” said Col. James Brady, garrison commander of Fort Bliss. “The November 2022 tabletop exercise at Fort Bliss further prepared the installation to execute this core mission requirement.”

The Commanding General of 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss Maj. Gen. James Isenhower opened the exercise by emphasizing facilities, capabilities, infrastructure, and timelines. He asked the team to capture the exercise outcomes to inform key stakeholders.

During the exercise, the group examined the available resources dedicated to deployment operations. They stressed the system with timelines, equipment, and troop numbers to identify the existing gaps and provide solutions for eliminating the identified gaps to develop plans to increase mobilization and deployment capacity if needed.

The discussions generated throughout the day allowed stakeholders to provide important points for consideration, build shared knowledge between organizations regarding capabilities and requirements, and identify commander’s decision points.

At the end of the exercise, all who participated took away a clear understanding of the requirements needed to conduct large-scale mobilization operations on Fort Bliss and the conditions required to meet any future requirements.
