JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. – Due to a reduction in funding and in accordance with Army policy this upcoming tax season, Joint Base Lewis-McChord will no longer offer the tax center services that have been offered in past years. This change is Armywide, not just at JBLM.
Surviving (Gold Star) family members may still receive assistance with tax preparation services by contacting the JBLM Legal Assistance Office. If you are not sure if you qualify for tax preparation services or tax legal assistance, you may inquire with the JBLM Legal Assistance Office at usarmy.jblm.i-corps.mbx.jblmlao@army.mil or 253-477-1886.
All others, please consider using these alternative resources:
- The IRS will continue to offer the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program to support free tax preparation service for the underserved through various other partner organizations. An online locator for VITA tax preparation assistance is available at https://irs.treasury.gov/freetaxprep/.
- Low-income taxpayers may also qualify for assistance from a Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC), such as the University of Washington Federal Tax Clinic (866-866-0158).
- Military OneSource has a tax website with free tax filing software at https://www.militaryonesource.mil/financial-legal/tax-resource-center/miltax-military-tax-services/. Military OneSource also offers a support hotline with tax preparers (called MilTax experts) who can be contacted for tax filing questions at 800-342-9647.
