Our Child Development Centers Need You

FORT DETRICK, Md. - Are you or someone you know interested in a great career opportunity?

Then look no further than the Fort Detrick Child Development Center. Here is your chance to make a difference in the lives of children and serve and support our military communities in a meaningful and influential way.

The pandemic and current economic stressors impacted almost every industry, and childcare services were not immune. Providing quality childcare services is vital to our community, and Fort Detrick's leadership recognizes the importance of this mission and is dedicated to getting back to pre-pandemic hours of operation to serve Fort Detrick families.

To that end, our services on base require specific staffing requirements to meet the mission, such as caregiver-to-child ratios. “We have been impacted this year by the same staffing shortages happening nationwide,” said Col. Ned Marsh, Fort Detrick US Army Garrison Commander, in a recent CDC update video. “In response, our Child Development Centers at Fort Detrick and Forest Glen Annex have raised hourly wages and are offering recruitment bonuses.” Now DOD has added childcare discounts of up to 50 percent for caregivers working in the program. Not only that, but these positions also offer great benefits such as 401k and retirement benefits, flexible spending, and health insurance, to name a few.

Our CDCs are nationally accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children and offer the Strong Beginnings Pre-K program.

Now is your chance to make a difference in the lives of children and military families.

To apply, visit usajobs.gov and search Fort Detrick and Child and Youth Services.

Fort Detrick and Forest Glen Annex CDC hours of operation are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Once staffing requirements are met the hope is to return to regular full-service hours, 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.

One final reminder, our community must continue to support the services on base to show we both want and use them.
