FORT KNOX, Ky. — Military spouses have a wealth of information and services available to them at Fort Knox.

From employment workspace to job fairs to referrals and more, Summer Carney, Fort Knox Employment Readiness Program manager at Army Community Service, says she has all that spouses need at her fingertips. But spouses may not know that.
“I don’t think any of our resources are underutilized,” said Carnley, “I just think getting information out to the spouses and promoting what resources are available needs to be done a little bit more.”
One of the services that some spouses take advantage of and many others don’t are the military spouse coworking spaces in the basement of Graham Hall in Building 1378.
“The spaces are a great place to work when you want to work in a professional environment away from your kitchen,” said Carney. “We do have spouses who use it on a periodic basis, but during PCS seasons it fluctuates. We remind spouses regularly that these spaces are available.”
Each of the six spaces comes equipped with a desk, chair and Wi-Fi capability. Spaces are open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Those interested can call for more information or reserve a room at 502-624-8068/2133.
For spouses in search of a job, the Transition Assistance Program regularly hosts employer days. While Carney doesn’t actually work for TAP, she does get regular updates on future employer days, which she in turn relays to spouses through email.
“When community partners and employers who I have formed a relationship with send me information related to job opportunities, openings or information related to different classes including local and virtual job fairs, I send that information out to military spouses who are on the list,” said Carney.
“Spouses are encouraged to contact me if they want to be added to the military spouse email distribution list. They can also call ACS to get in contact with me so I can get them added to the list.”
Carney said the ACS building hosts a number of classes for spouses and military members, from financial readiness planning to family advocacy and new parent support.
The following are some of the many upcoming Employment Readiness Program events available for military spouses:
- Interview Techniques and Skills and Dress for Success Workshop, Nov. 7, 1:30-3:30 p.m., in ACS Building 1477 at 411 Eisenhower.
- Federal Resume and USA Jobs Workshop, Nov. 16 from 9:30-11:30 a.m., and Dec. 8, 10 a.m. to noon at the same location. The workshop is open to military spouses, transitioning servicemembers and eligible dependents.

Carney encouraged military spouses to take advantage of all that ACS has to offer:
“It is basically your one-stop shop for anything and everything related to the military here at Fort Knox.”
