FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. — Dieticians from General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital and Commissary officials have teamed up to host a new tour program featuring healthy diet options available here.

The first hour-long tour is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. Friday.

According to 1st Lt. Brittany Powers, a dietician with GLWACH’s Nutrition Care Division, the purpose of the tours are to show participants some of the healthier options they may not have known about around the store.

“It’s easier to show people healthy eating versus me just explaining it in the office,” Powers said.

In addition to showcasing healthier options, the dietitians leading the tour will explain how to read nutrition labels, and samples of certain foods will be available for those who want to try items before purchasing something new.

Ricardo Edelman, deputy manager at Fort Leonard Wood’s Commissary, said the tours serve the Commissary’s purpose of supporting the mission of the Fort Leonard Wood community.

“In the last three years, the Commissary has invested more time and resources to make patrons more aware of different nutritional options,” he said.

Those attending the tour can also participate in a raffle to win a $50 Commissary gift card.

Besides Friday’s event, Powers said another tour is scheduled for Nov. 4.
