More than 45 Retirement Services Officers representing installations across the Army Enterprise, numerous guest speakers from various supporting federal agencies, and leadership from Department of the Army and Lt. Gen. Omar J. Jones IV, commanding general of Army Installation Management Command, participated in a professional training event.

Reaching military retirement following years of service to our nation reflects the commitment and dedication by many Service Members who have chosen to serve. As with all military duty requirements, preparing for retirement requires attention, time needed to schedule participation in required programs as well as self- preparation as one transitions to the ‘retired roles’.

In September, more than 45 Retirement Services Officers representing installations across the Army Enterprise, numerous guest speakers from various supporting federal agencies, and leadership from Department of the Army and Lt. Gen. Omar J. Jones IV, commanding general of Army Installation Management Command, participated in a professional training event for RSOs.

Maria Bentinck, U.S. Army Deputy Retirement Program deputy director said: “The conference was an amazing opportunity for RSOs to come together to show best practices to gain information and knowledge from HQDA and other Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) so they can continue to support the retiree community.”

Educating Soldiers with information to assist them as they make decisions regarding their retirement and earned service benefits can make their transition to retirement smoother for themselves and their families while remaining a top goal of IMCOM. The event included current issue briefings, review of best practices, opportunities to network and discuss issues and solutions in break-out sessions, and meet with fellow field SMEs to include IMCOM’s Retirement Services Advisory Group (RSAG) members. IMCOM’s RSAG is an advisory group that taps SMEs from small, medium, and large installations to provide valuable guidance, field expertise, mentorship, and real boots on the ground advice on current matters and concerns related to retiree matters to our Army leadership.

The Department of the Army (HQDA) Retirement Services Program, Retirement Services Program For Soldiers | The Official Army Benefits Website provides assistance to Soldiers and their Families preparing for and transitioning to retirement. They also assist families of Soldiers who die on active duty, retired Soldiers, surviving spouses and their families. Through a network RSOs at major Army installations, National Guard State Headquarters, and Army Reserve Readiness Divisions and Mission Support Commands worldwide, they provide counseling to these groups on their rights, benefits and entitlements; assist with Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) elections; assist with Reserve Component Survivor Benefit Plan (RCSBP) elections; and keep the retiree population informed of law and benefit changes.

MyArmyBenefits, Retirement Services Program For Soldiers | The Official Army Benefits Website is the official military benefits website of the U.S. Army and provides additional guidance on many areas relating to military retirement. HQDA and IMCOM provide many partnering efforts to educate, train, and ensure RSOs are informed and credential to provide military Retirees and Families accurate information on entitled programs.

The event focused on the role of the RSO, interaction and support to Retired service members and the intent of the policy regulation requirements to support our retiring Soldiers and their families. While Soldiers’ duties change with retirement, the recognition, support, and connection for their service to our nation continues. Stewardship of our nations funds includes recognizing and supporting our retirees for their contributions and service which remains the mission of our Army and IMCOM.
