WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, N.M. (September 30, 2022) - The U.S. Army White Sands Missile Range Garrison leadership signed their pledges to Service Culture on Sept. 29 at the Post Theater. WSMR Garrison Commander Col. David Mitchell, Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Devin Winnegan, and Deputy Garrison Commander Fred “Hank” Hankerson III, made the pledges at the Garrison Town Hall with all their teammates as witnesses.

The ‘Pledge to Those We Serve’ focuses on taking care of the people, which means taking care of their most valuable asset, IMCOM (U.S. Army Installation Management Command) professionals. Leadership also pledged to the workforce and community to provide easily accessible services, communicate, listen, be respectful, and much more. The Garrison is a service provider organization committed to providing programs and services delivered with a sense of individual pride and professionalism and in keeping with the spirit of Army values and IMCOM principles.

“We can’t do our job without all of you. By us signing this pledge, we are saying to you that we will take care of you in all aspects of what you do each and every day,” said Mitchell. “We want to take care of those that serve by taking care of all of you.”

The ‘Leadership Pledge,’ is the second pledge they signed at the Town Hall. It aims for leadership and those in leadership positions to treat the people they serve and all Garrison employees respectfully, thus supporting Army Readiness and creating an Improved Organizational Culture. Specifically, they pledged to foster an organization that embraces the concept of team, teamwork, and empowerment.

“I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart every single day for what you do,” said Mitchell. “As we move forward, keep an open mind towards the future and our work together.”

In the Army, readiness has many meanings; for the battlefield, it is being equipped to conduct the full range of military operations with joint forces and defeat all enemies in any environment. However, readiness is critical at every level of the Army for Warfighters to be successful.

Readiness within Service Culture focuses on People being the Army's #1 Priority. If all employees are treated well, the quality of service they deliver to Soldiers and the community will improve.

The Service Culture Components are:

  • Leader and Workforce Engagement
  • Communication
  • Onboarding
  • Employee Recognition
  • Leader Development and Talent Management
  • Sense of Belonging

Following and working towards these components daily should lead to Improved Organizational Culture. This year Diversity, Inclusion, and Dignity and Respect were added to the campaign focusing on providing a sense of belonging and respect for all.
