ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. –As the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command's newly appointed Chief of Current Operations (CUOPS), I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and the team’s mission. For 27 years, I have been in a wide variety of positions for the U.S. Army, both in the military and civilian service, covering numerous aspects of operations and force protection. In my current position, I am responsible for the management of CECOM’s G3/5 CUOPS Branch, including both the Command Watch Desk and Protection cell. I am truly honored to be a part of this great command and look forward to working with all of you.
As a critical interface to our higher headquarters, the CWD coordinates, integrates and synchronizes command-level operational information, often reported to Army Materiel Command and Headquarters, Dept. of the Army. The CWD focuses on identifying impacts, challenges and solutions for our Command and C5ISR equities.
The protection cell oversees and ensures CECOM’s protection, antiterrorism, emergency management and physical security programs. The cell is charged with implementing Army policies in order to manage and mitigate risks relative to the protection, safety and security of our workforce, family members, infrastructure, materiel and information necessary to accomplish the CECOM mission.
As part of the CECOM Dash, we will be publishing monthly articles on various topics affecting our command, driven by current CWD and protection cell initiatives. As our first article, we are discussing National Preparedness Month, an annual campaign encouraging Americans to prepare for emergencies in their homes, schools, organizations, business, and communities. Observed every September, NPM is led by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and is sponsored by the Ready Campaign.
This year’s NPM theme “A Lasting Legacy” focused on preparedness for disasters to create a lasting legacy for you, your family and our Nation. In the spirit of this year’s NPM theme, we encourage and challenge the CECOM community to plan now, work together and be ready. Through review of our existing emergency action plans and mission essential functions as well as validation during Garrison-led exercises, we’re taking steps as a command to become educated, trained and better prepared. We urge you to take the time to do the same at home, and in your community. Please visit www.ready.gov and start down the road to preparedness.
Next month, we will discuss community situational awareness. Until then, I leave you with this thought: Have you prepared to create “A Lasting Legacy” for you and your family?
